This policy analysis and mapping interface is a partnership between the Southern Rural Development Initiative (SRDI) and the Rural Policy Research Institute’s (RUPRI) Community Information Resource Center.

SRDI’s federal funds analysis database has three distinct interfaces. The first developed is the community learning interface designed to facilitate policy education for rural leaders. It can be found on SRDI’s website here.

The SRDI/RUPRI collaborative effort presents on this web page two database tools for distinct purposes. The first allows users to design custom queries of federal agency funding data present in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Consolidated Federal Funds Reports for the FY 2001-2003 period. A query can be designed for a specific federal agency or all agencies, the type of funds, the designated function (intent) of the funds, and then a variety county filters. Summary data is provided for the filtered counties, and total and per capita data for individual counties that make up the query choice. A map is automatically generated at the top of the report page. This query system is highly useful for wide angle policy analysis and research.

The second tool provides a county summary page of key United States Department of Agriculture program funding for the FY 2001-2003. This tool is timely as the United States Congress is currently deliberating on the reauthorization of the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act, which will guide USDA policy and programs for the next five years.
